Few words about process

Philippians 4:12 - I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Jesse Wright (1974) is an American/Jamaican multidisciplinary artist and instructor who lives and works in New Jersey, USA. Drawing heavily on a background in painting, commercial design and service in the missions field, Wright explores spiritual connections underlying daily experience and observation through his practice which consists of mixed media painting, printmaking and video. It incorporates found materials and musings on text from passages of scripture, news clippings and the internet. Intuitively elements are repurposed, fragmented and layered to address the many ways in which we communicate and the many layers of understood and unknown meanings by balancing representational elements with abstract elements. The blending of visual styles also references the blended cultures of Wright’s Jamaican American heritage.

Jesse’s international travel as an art director for an importer instilled a respect for iconography that transcends language.

His technology work in the film, news and entertainment industry gave an awareness of the various ways we are able to communicate and how fragmented the messages can become.

Recent years involving humanitarian and ministry related missions work in Uganda, Haiti, Mexico, and Honduras serving at orphanages, medical centers, schools and displacement camps have significantly influenced the Wright’s subject matter making a call for art as activism through an exploration of printmaking and video.
