As part of the Woman and Children First series, FROM YARD is the companion mother piece to the JA DAUGHTER portrait also heavily featuring iconography related to Jamaica, the homeland of the model. The phrase from yard is Jamaican patios for what could be loosely translated as , "from dirt roads" or "from a simple way of life" in Jamaica. The photo was taken around 1960, in the parish of Little London during the "Rock Steady & Ska era". The mother/daughter pieces attempt to, in part, recognize the nurturing aspect of relationship.
